Mandating an enrollment in Medicare doesn't mandate that you must
give up private insurance. It makes it less practical, but you can still keep it.
Regarding the burden to the treasury, that remains to be seen. Assuming it wasn't sabotaged by the right, there is no reason that the increased taxes that people pay couldn't cover all or most of that. People and employers would have a strong incentive to stop paying for medical insurance, but if other countries can design a workable program, then I am confident that we can too.
